Filmmakers Ernest B. Schoedsack and Merian C. Cooper returned 16 years after their classic King Kong for another great giant ape movie. It doesn’t have the pathos that Kong did, but it’s still a lot of fun. In this sequel to King Kong vs. Godzilla, Kong goes toe to toe with a giant robot double of himself created by the evil Dr. Who (no not the guy who fought the Daleks). Critics fell all over themselves to praise this, but Peter (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) Jackson’s overstuffed epic is way too long and has way too many inconsequential supporting characters to be fully compelling. A lot of people bitch about this remake, but it still remains fun, goofy entertainment. The filmmakers took great pains to “update” many aspects of the original 1933 classic to the “modern” 70’s era.
